Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced on Friday that he is suspending his independent presidential campaign and endorsing Donald Trump, marking a significant shift in the race. This move could potentially provide Trump with a modest boost among Kennedy’s supporters.

Kennedy explained that internal polling suggested his candidacy might inadvertently harm Trump’s chances while benefiting Democratic nominee Kamala Harris. However, public polling has not clearly demonstrated a significant impact from his campaign on either major-party candidate’s support.

Kennedy pointed to issues like free speech, the war in Ukraine, and what he described as “a war on our children” as key factors in his decision to withdraw from the race and support Trump.

“These are the main reasons that led me to leave the Democratic Party, run as an independent, and now endorse President Trump,” Kennedy stated.
